The Digital Archive System - DAS3000 is a companion product to the Digital Recording Systems. Data that has been recorded on the hard disks of the Digital Recording Systems can be efficiently off-loaded for permanent archiving and convenient data transfer. The standard configuration of the DAS3000 consists of three high performance tape drives. Current configurations make use of Sony AIT-3 tape drives. Each AIT-3 tape drive can support uncompressed transfers of 12 Megabytes per second and can record 100 Gigabytes of data. The DAS3000 is connected to the Digital Recording System via a single SCSI cable. All of the electronics and control to perform the archive and restore process is accomplished within the Digital Recording System. In archive mode the user can request all the data to be saved or a selected subset of the data. Header information recorded on the tapes ensures correct sequencing of multi-volume tape sets. A single-tape archive solution, the DAS1000, is available for those applications not requiring the full data rate and capacity provided by the DAS3000. The DAS1000 is based on a standard external AIT-3 tape drive controlled by the recorder. |
